Kayaking
The Ourthe offers some very picturesque descents. It's safe with kids as the Ourthe isn't that deep. There are no rapids, just a tiny waterfall (30 cm) close to La Roche.

Compared to the descents of the Lesse, the Ourthe offers a less crowded descent. There is no need to use public transport to the starting points as busses from the providers will drop you off. Whereas you will pay for "extras" on the Lesse (lighter paddles, comfortable kayaks,..)... one price: all-in!

Three famous descents :

  • All year round: From the Nisramont dam to La Roche (25 km, whole day)
  • All year round: From Maboge to la Roche (10 km, a few hours).
  • October 1st till March 15th: Houffalize direction  Nisramont: Kayak rental + 4 different starting points (Moulin Bock, Camping C&P) walking distance from the chalet.
  • High season: gentle floating on the dam of Nisramont

Take your car to La Roche, approx. 20 kilometers (one of the most beautiful roads in the Ardennes), and pay for a kayak trip at one of the kayak providers. You will find them in and around La Roche. Free transport to one of the starting points.

  • Ardenne-Avonture (La Roche); Brandsport (La Roche), Les Kayaks de L'ourthe (La Roche) Price: approx. 12 EUR (10km).
  • You can combine kayaking with a Mountain-bike trip La Roche - Maboge.
  • Possibility to rent a watertight barrel for your clothes and other items - €2, pay in bus
  • Doubble and single kayaks

How to get there?

  • Follow the road to La Roche (street alongside the Ourthe)
  • Nisramont dam: at approx. 10kms from the chalet - signpost to the left
  • In La Roche: Follow the "P" signs (Parking). You can find a few kayak rental providers in and around  La Roche.
